Precious Pieces produces architectural parchment and washi products. Buddhist monks took the art of paper-making to Japan in 610 AD, and by the late 1800s, more than 100,000 families were crafting paper in that country. With European paper-making machinery, the number of families declined until only 479 were active by 1983.
