Oh, Say Can You See?
Betsy Reborn
The Miami architectural firm of Beilinson-Gomez, and interior designers Diamante Pedersoli and Carmelina Santoro have done The Betsy Ross Hotel in South Beach (and it’s original creator L. Murray Dixon) proud. Now The Betsy South Beach, the Ocean-Drive hotel has been treated to a contemporary tropical colonial style befitting a belle of the ball. What possessed Miami’s maestro of the Tropical Art Deco style to create a hybrid Georgian building on South Beach’s Art Deco Row? Apparently, he was feeling nostalgic, as the hotel was designed on the heels of the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. We give a little wave of the flag to the transformation of the hotel and to its namesake, the designer of the star-spangled banner, who said, “Today the American knight holds the commercial supremacy of the world.” We’re betting this new addition to Ocean Drive will hold a commercial supremacy of its own.
