Galerie Patrick Seguin at DesignMiami/ in Basel

DesignMiami/ is moving to a larger location for the fourth year of its Basel presence beginning on June 9 and continuing through June 13. Galerie Patrick Seguin returns once again. The Parisian gallery brings iconic pieces by Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Jeanneret and Jean Prouvé, who in 1952 designed Table SAM N°506 (left) with Perriand.

The Sights and Sounds of ICFF

A chandelier made of see-through panties, Philippe Starck waxing poetic on his custom-made trousers that provide ample room for his “package,” and more contemporary design than a psyche can bear. You guessed it: we’ve all survived another International Contemporary Furniture Fair. We’ll share a few of our favorite moments, and our special correspondent, Jo Ann Locktov, will fill you in on the material alchemy she spotted in abundance. She’s telling on Mr. Starck, who was at The Conran Shop (right, with a fan) with his beautiful wife Jasmine. The charismatic pair was just featured in “T Magazine”: so much beauty! Here for the link and so much more.

MARIMEKKO MAKES A SPLASH

Cristina Dominguez, owner of Marimekko Miami, has moved her showroom to the Design District. She’s throwing a party to celebrate (June 13 from 7 to 9 p.m.). The new space will allow her to expand her focus. Rumor has it that part of the new concept store will morph into a loft-like space designed by local design stars.

THEY’RE BRINGING SEXY BACK

We had the inkling that furniture manufacturers are going out of their way to make seating as sexy from the back as it is from the front. After a bit of research, we’ve made our case. Might we add that Justin Timberlake would likely feel quite comfortable shackled to any one of these babes? Watch the video to get your sexy on, then perch like you mean it! MY KIND OF TOWN

It’s a June Swoon in Chicago! Not only is Neo-Con in town, San Juan Ventures is opening a new showroom (right), as is Bisazza. There’s also a new addition to the wares at Pavillion Antiques, and the hip team of artisans is showing a lot of skin (got your attention, didn’t we?). Frank baby croons it:

listen and leap!

Coral Gables-based designer Stephanie Tyler designed “Piano, Piano,” a bar at Cotton Bay Village in St. Lucia. Her initial inspiration was Caribbean pop. The owner of IDC says, “The use of color and texture were instrumental in achieving a contemporary Tropical look, as well as blending the clean, sleek lines of the bar with the natural curves of the furniture.”

EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN

DesignCommotion’s Creative Director, Alejandro Vigilante, is in Buenos Aires, his home town, to participate in arteBA, the Argentine version of Art Basel. While roaming around, he spotted some highly serious and wantonly whimsical antiques at Gabriel del Campo Anticuario that he thought was worth sharing. Great minds think alike, they say, and our friends at Vintage & Modern have just welcomed a handful of Argentine and Chilean antiques dealers to their site. Click here, Che, or you’ll miss out on both.
